  1. Information about the organization (e.g., type, size, location, specific division/department in which you are employed)—- Maspeth Town Hall is a city funded after school program/ summer camp that offers to watch children for working families that cant make the early school dismissals, or for the kids that would like to take on extra curricular activities. At the time of my internship MTH was affiliated with 7 schools and had 250-300 employees.
  2. Job function (e.g., overall role, assigned tasks)—- My task was to minimize the time taken for monthly reports to be generated by the staff.
  3. Examples of projects (e.g., list the projects you worked on and what you accomplished)—- Because MTH is a city funded program, expenses need to be reported and the program doesn\’t receive the money for a few months. Therefor any current expenses are paid with past grants. As soon as a transaction is made it is filed under the said school. An expense can be anywhere from a counselors payroll, to garbage bags, to field trips. At the end of the month an expense report is made to make sure that the correct amount of money is going to these past pools of expenses. I was brought on to make life simpler when viewing this data. My project started off by me making a database for all of the expenses from a school so it would be easier to sift through information. But after realizing how time consuming it was, the supervisors requested that I work with excel, so compressed content and combine different spreadsheets to convey data without having to open every schools account.
  4. What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this internship in the context of specific courses).— This experience reminded me of my MIS3506 BA class. The whole time I saw real scenarios that we talked about tin class. What stood out to me the most is business rules. Whatever I presented would have to be adjusted to their specific needs, but also be simple enough to be used by someone who isn\’t very skilled with excel.
