Note-Taking for Business Professionals
I have always been curious about how note taking in a professional environment differs from the classroom, this course taught me useful skills and helped me gain insight into that curiosity. I learned how to create an action plan, something that never occurred to me before. This plan should include decisions and actions, along with a timeline for when the actions should be completed, and who will be completing them. Another helpful idea was the Cornell Notetaking strategy, having your main points on the left side of a page, with the details accompanying them on the right is an effective strategy for meetings where things may be moving a bit quickly. Mind-mapping and the read and recall method were two more strategies I learned from this activity. I have always done mind-mapping subconsciously but this video series solidified my knowledge and gave me some more insight into why it is so effective, and the proper time to utilize this strategy. Overall, I learned that note taking in a professional setting is a lot different than in a classroom setting, the focus should be more on actively listening and retaining important points, rather than taking notes on every single detail in the meeting, among other useful strategies.
