Temple University

Temple_University

Computer Lab Consultant

I maintain the Temple University main Campus Computer Lab and provide technical support to students, faculty, staff, and alumni using the TECH Center computer lab. I have had to blend customer service skills with technical knowledge to help users of the lab.

Not only have I had to be attentive to users and actively assist them if they have questions, I have also had to maintain a thorough understating of the software and machines in the lab. Using available resources I have solved various problems with the software and system. My daily tasks included ensuring the lab computers and printers are functioning properly. Some programs that I have assisted students with technical issues include: FinalCut Pro, Protools, InDesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Audacity, Printers (3D, Plotter, Inkjet), Scanners, etc. I have maintained the cleanliness and efficient operation of the labs and classrooms within one of the largest computer labs at a University.

RMA

Web Development Intern

I have redesigned the content of the Chapter’s section of the RMAHQ website. My responsibility included updating existing information as well as creating new pages of content using HTML to make the website both user-friendly and effective. I wrote and edited content, designed the webpage layout, determined technical requirements for updating the website, created back up files and solved code problems. I have created new pages with attachments, forms, FAQs, videos and a picture gallery with thumbnails. I have also used various functions of Excel and filtered data.

IT Management Intern

I served as liaison between the agency and IT services in ensuring office staff computer capabilities were maximized. I provided administrative support to investigate compliance of case files with the Uniform Services Employee Re-employment Rights and Veterans Preference acts. I would review case referrals for accuracy prior to submission to the Office of Special Counsel and Solicitors Office. I was responsible for assisting in processing, verifying, and maintaining personnel documentation, including staffing, recruitment, training, performance evaluations, classifications, and employee leaves. I answered telephone inquiries on veterans’ benefits, rights and employment opportunities while referring to appropriate state agencies. I recorded data for each employee including: addresses, weekly earnings, absences, amount of sales or production, supervisory reports on performance, and dates of and reasons for terminations. I had to create and maintain caller logs and files through a database management system. I also compiled and prepared reports and documents pertaining to personnel activities and control tracking. Other responsibilities included processing and reviewing resumes, evaluating qualifications and eligibility of applicants. I also assisted in advertising and posting job vacancies while notifying staff of eligibility requirements. I learned a lot about data recording and data retraction using an excel spreadsheet and had the opportunity to learn many excel functions as the US Department of Labor has a lot of data.

Rite-Aid Pharmacy

Pharmacy Technician

I had the opportunity to work at Rite Aid pharmacy in Easton, Maryland. My experience working behind the counter, was extremely useful and interesting as I learned how a retail pharmacy operated on a daily basis. I quickly became involved in the processing and dispensing aspect of pharmacy. I used “The Pill Book”, which has important information from the type of drug, what it is prescribed for, to cautions and warnings, and possible side effects. I had to know what a particular medication was used for and how to translate a sig code into directions that would be understood by the patient. Interacting with the patient was enjoyable as I helped patients complete prescription orders.

I utilized Nextgen Pharmacy Dispensing System to process prescription requests and would retrieve medication stock bottles from shelves while counting and labeling prescriptions. Some of my responsibilities included verifying drug shipments, restocking pharmacy inventory and entering it into the computer system, filling prescriptions in a timely manner under high volume conditions, directing customers to pharmacists for counseling, and verifying accuracy of customer information. I had to contact healthcare insurers to verify customer copays, benefits and entitlements and assist customers in resolving health insurer discrepancies related to prescription coverage. With more experience I was able to answer technical inquiries and advised customers on HIPAA related procedures with regards to personal information. The job taught me to be precise, careful and diligent as incorrect medication could be detrimental. I learned a lot from confidentiality to skills such as customer service, and prioritizing work under high volume conditions.

Temple University

Temple_UniversityResearch Assistant

As a sophomore at Temple I took part in the Undergraduate Research Program. I was part of the Sbarro Health Research Organization working with MONALISA (Molecular Nanotechnology for life science applications). I learned a lot about the future of nanografting while working towards Multiprotein Nanoarrays and using DNA directed immobilization of proteins/antibodies. I performed experiments of grafting, hybridization, imaging (flattening, measuring, and managing) and controlling enzyme reactions. The research goal was to study how enzymes cut DNA; the height was supposed to decrease from after hybridization to after enzyme reaction.

I assisted with the preparation of university project-related reports, manuscripts, and presentations. I was responsible to obtain informed consent of research subjects and their guardians. Following laboratory safety procedures,I aligned the laser and treated equipment, I verified the accuracy and validity of data entered in databases while correcting discrepancies. I performed descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses of the data, using various university software. It was my responsibility to prepare tables, graphs, fact sheets, and written reports summarizing the research results. I conducted internet-based and library research and had the opportunity to present our research findings to various researchers.
