Data Analytics

Between the Facebook privacy scandal and the booming sector of big data, it’s no question that data is a topic of interest for many in the business world. Data is everywhere today. Websites, cable providers, and government agencies gather and store data constantly to track people’s interests and actions. There’s no escaping it in the modern world.

What I find particularly fascinating about data analytics is the storytelling. I thoroughly enjoy digging through large sets of data looking for the major highlights and piecing together a story about the context and relationship regarding the data.

During my internship at AmerisourceBergen, I had the opportunity to work with multiple sets of data. For example, the company had been experiencing difficulties and dissatisfaction with the conference rooms in the four main office locations. Employees began brainstorming ideas to make the rooms better before identifying a root cause. Therefore, I created a survey and received over 1,000 responses from across the four locations. I was then able to sort through the data and piece together relevant findings for the team in charge of the conference rooms. To read more about my internship at AmerisourceBergen, click here.

UX Design

Don Norman, the author of The Design of Everyday Things, said, “A brilliant solution to the wrong problem can be worse than no solution at all: solve the correct problem.”

I like this quote because I feel it encompasses why I enjoy UX design. It’s a puzzle. The purpose of UX design is to enhance a user’s experience with a website, system, or tool without limiting its ease of use. In order to do this effectively, UX designers must extensively research how users interact with an interface, and design solutions based on the requirements, limitations, or experience level of the users.

I find it fascinating to look at the world around me and wonder why specific things were designed the way they were, and challenge myself to think like a UX designer. Why was that object designed that way? What purpose does it serve? How can it be improved or worsened?

Other

In my free time, I love playing and watching ice hockey. I grew up cheering for the New York Islanders ever since the age of 2 and started playing when I was 5 years old. I had the opportunity to play with a lot of great teams and travel around the country doing what I loved. I played until after my first year at Temple.

In addition, I love to read non-fiction and explore the Philly area with my friends.
