About Me

communityservice

My full name is Nwakaego Isamah, Nwaka for short, and I am a Junior Economics major in the Fox School of Business and Management at Temple University. I was born and raised in Nigeria and moved to Philadelphia with my family over 10 years ago.

From my middle school days, I have been heavily involved in extra-curricular activities. From being a member of the choir for 8 years to joining sports such as volleyball, track, cross-country, and tennis, freelance writing for the newspaper, and joining literary art clubs. Being engaged in activities always helped me feel like I was utilizing all resources available to me and making my educational experience worthwhile.

At Temple University, I acquired my first internship as a Business Development Intern at Course Hero Knowledge Drive. As an intern, I created a team of about 25 members to upload their old course documents and notes to the Drive Database. To persuade my team members to upload their documents, I researched to develop an understanding of the Knowledge Drive, developed a 90 second pitch to deliver to prospective members, and practiced consistently with my coach on how to develop the pitch.  I presented this pitch to my roommates, my coworkers, and my classmates and through their understanding of my pitch they uploaded their documents to the drive.  My team uploaded 200 documents and donated 164 books to Books for Africa which exceeded my goals of 100 documents and 50 books.  Through this internship, I was able to develop strong interpersonal and effective communication skills.

From the beginning of my Sophomore year at Temple University, I have also served on the executive board for the Temple Economics Society as both the Vice President and President.  These positions have helped me to develop my organization skills since I had to maintain a proper list of member information, send out detailed e-mails of event updates to 500+ economics majors and minors weekly, and contact economic professionals in the Philadelphia region daily.  Through my involvement in the Economics Society, I have learned the value of teamwork, the ability to compromise when necessary, and valuable leadership skills.

I am also grateful to have been involved with the Society of Emerging African Leaders as a Treasurer and Management Leadership for Tomorrow as a Career Prep Fellow because being active in both organizations has helped me plan, prioritize, and manage my time effectively.  Balancing these organizations and being a Shift Leader at a candy store with constant busy seasons while being a full-time student has been an extremely rewarding challenge.  I have realized a vast amount of my strengths and weaknesses, life opportunities, and I have also been able to meet some of the best and brightest people from all over the country.  I hope to use these experiences as an incoming intern at Vanguard and future Resident Assistant. I also hope to use these experiences as a way to set myself apart in an ever competitive market and be able to use myself as a resource for other people.
