Field LabX: Innovation by Design @ Rec Philly Rec Room

Field LabX and Think Company have teamed up to create an immersive UX research and design experience. Join us for an evening of hands-on skills training that will challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone, learn about a new audience, and collaboratively innovate on a user-focused solution. Through these experiences, you’ll develop the skills to become a more empathetic innovator within your organization.

This Field Lab’s case study will focus on REC Philly, an organization that provides resources and support for musicians in Philadelphia. The team at REC Philly has invited us backstage to get inside access to some of Philly’s most entrepreneurial musicians. You’ll apply principles of UX research and design to better understand this community, uncover their challenges and pain points, and create solutions with them in mind.

After completing this Field LabX experience, you’ll walk away with everything you need to create user-focused solutions for everyday business challenges—no matter your industry or field. Join experts from some of the area’s top social impact organizations to learn how they are using technology to streamline their organizations, reach underserved populations, and engage with new audiences.

Moderator:

Mo Manklang, Chief of Operations, U.S. Department of Arts and Culture, is a creative strategist focusing on cooperative solutions and network building. She has been convening people in the arts, nonprofit, social enterprise, and cooperative areas the past five years in Philadelphia. Mo is Board Vice President of the Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance, a member of the Media and Marketing committee of the Kensington Community Food Co-op, a member of the Policy Committee of the Sustainable Business Network, and is cofounder of The Bechdel Test Fest, an annual festival highlighting women and transgender comedians in Philadelphia.

Panelists:

Stephanie Thome works for Azavea: a geospatial technology and data analytics company which focuses on projects that increase civic and social impact. There, she manages the Cicero product, which is a database of legislative districts and elected official contact information. In this capacity, Stephanie has assisted numerous nonprofits using technology to engage with their National, state, and local elected officials. Prior to joining Azavea in 2014, Stephanie worked at a nonprofit providing services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Erik Kivimäki is a Senior Standards Analyst at B Lab. Erik guides multinationals and Brazilian companies through the B Corporation Certification and GIIRS rating processes. Erik has a master’s degree in Sustainable Development from Utrecht University in the Netherlands and has previously worked in management consulting in the clean tech and oil and gas sectors.

HUE – A Tech Summit for Women of Color @ Hussian College

Calling all technologists and founders in the Delaware Valley and beyond for the inaugural HUE Tech Summit, a diversity in tech event powered by the Tech Women Network. It will be the Delaware Valley’s first summit that is designed to educate, elevate, and empower women of color technologists and founders.

Hidden no more, it’s time for women of color in the region to come forth and shine. It will be a groundbreaking event during Philly Tech Week as hundreds of professional women, recent college graduates, and supporters are expected to be in attendance. The theme for the summit is “No More Hidden Figures” and the goal is to ensure that women of color are not left behind in the ever-changing tech world.

The opening keynote speech will be provided by Valeisha Butterfield-Jones, Global Head of Women and Black Community Engagement for GOOGLE, and Co-Founder and CEO of the Women’s Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN). The closing key, Dr. Sandra K. Johnson, one of the first African American women in the nation to receive a PH.D. in Electrical Engineering.

Innovation Day 2018 @ O3 World

Coming to you for the second year in a row, O3 World is hosting Innovation Day, a three-hour string of lightning talks, live demos and interactions showcasing new and emerging technologies from Philadelphia’s top agencies and innovation labs on Friday, May 4th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during Philly Tech Week 2018 presented by Comcast.

Similar to last year, we’ll continue to discuss emerging technologies such as voice user interfaces, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and more! Participants will be sharing their real-life experiences with the technologies and demonstrate how they’ve used it to improve efficiencies and overall user experiences.
