Business Intelligence Analyst Internship

I learned a lot from my role as a Business Intelligence Analyst Intern at Comcast Corporation. On the BI team, we provide digital solutions for many different processes and problems by utilizing various software’s and tools. I received training in Alteryx, Power Automate, Python, and other tools to prepare me for the tasks I would expect to take on. I learned the importance of being detailed oriented, organized, and due diligent on a team to be efficient.

Alteryx
Alteryx is a very powerful tool that a lot of our processes utilize. I am currently training to earn my Core certification in Alteryx, where I will continue moving forward in the Alteryx certification ladder till I am a certified Alteryx Designer Expert or Alteryx Predictive Master. I have worked on a few projects requiring the use of Alteryx and other applications, such as one with a colleague outside of my team. I had to communicate effectively with my coworker about resolving the fall out we were experiencing with the data, which was addressed and resolved after a few emails and meetings. This taught me the importance of effective communication, which is needed in order to complete any request or project.

Databases
The importance of SQL for our team is important, as I utilize PL/SQL and SQL Server Manager for pulling data monthly. My highest-level priority recently has been to reverse engineer a process previously used for collecting, reconciling, and mapping billing data which utilized a workflow and its generated outputs. When collecting and mapping data through a workflow, you must account for any fall outs that may occur and resolve them. If not, the data is not true which will create a variance. This is something that is very important I learned, as it verifies the integrity of the data we pulled at its most granular level.

Python
I have received training in Python over the past few months and have expanded on my previous knowledge developed in an Intro to Python course I took previously. I have been occupied by higher priority assignments, so I have yet to be involved in creating or kicking off any scripts. I have been preparing to take some responsibility in kicking off and creating scripts for various functions we have, such as moving important documents from our shared drive to Box.

AWS
I have attended a few live sessions regarding Data Resiliency and Machine learning. I learned a lot from these sessions about the different services AWS offers, and its potential applicability to the various things our team does. I found that Textract, an AI service AWS offers in Sage Maker Studio, may be something that may be applicable and beneficial to our current process for uploading files to box. We do so utilize scripts and Win Automation currently, which automates the process, but requires someone to kick it off. Implementing this service could potentially in the future help automate this process entirely.
