Introduction to Scientific Legal Mapping and Policy Surveillance
This event was conducted by the Center for Public Health Law Research at the Temple University Beasley School of Law. This event provided training on how scientific methods are utilized to turn laws and policies into structured data. It went through concepts such as legal mapping and policy surveillance to explain how they can be applied in research. Additionally, I learned the steps that are involved in the process such as defining the scope of the project, drafting memorandums, development of coding questions, and getting insight into laws across jurisdictions. This allowed me to develop an understanding of how those concepts can be used through coding and analyzing legal data to support data-driven decision-making. Furthermore, this relates to my coursework in my major, Management Information Systems by displaying how data analytics can contribute and help solve real-world problems.
