Using OpenStreetMap Data for Urban Spatial Analysis: Crowdsourced Geography for Research
In the workshop we explored the ways in which OpenStreetMap may be used as a reliable, crowdsourced geographic database for urban research. We learned how researchers utilize spatial data such as building footprints, road networks, and land use information to study transportation trends, infrastructure planning, and urban growth. I discovered how to clean, organize, and incorporate open-source geographic data into analytical tools to produce insightful information for making decisions. This exercise emphasizes how analytics, database systems, and data management may be used to solve practical issues.
