Area Manager
Site and Organization: I had the opportunity to intern at Amazon, one of the world’s largest e-commerce and technology companies, at their MTN1 Gen11 fulfillment center. This facility, located in Wilmington, Deleware, is a key part of Amazon’s extensive logistics network, focusing on efficiently processing, packaging, and shipping customer orders.
Job Function:
As an Area Manager Intern, my role involved leading and managing a team of approximately 200 employees across multiple departments. My primary responsibilities included overseeing daily operations, ensuring safety standards, and optimizing workflow efficiency. I was also tasked with monitoring performance metrics, conducting audits, and implementing strategies to enhance productivity.
Project Overview:
- Cost Reduction: I successfully developed and implemented a new system that significantly reduced labor costs by over $60,000 per month. This project involved analyzing current processes, identifying inefficiencies, and redesigning workflows to streamline operations. I presented the results of this initiative to upper management, demonstrating its positive impact on overall performance.
- Department Transformation: I played a key role in transforming a struggling department into a high-performing team. By assessing performance data and collaborating with team members, I implemented changes that improved efficiency and created a more functional, multi-use workspace.
How It Relates:

By applying principles from courses such as Operations Management and Data Analysis, I was able to analyze and present data effectively, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions that had a measurable impact. The experience also honed my skills in teamwork, communication, diving deep, and strategic thinking.
