Association for Information Systems

Member

Most recently, I have become a member of the Association for Information Systems. This organization is practically essential for all MIS majors because it provides valuable information and resources that aid in professional development and help students gain general insight. Members can also learn more about potential job opportunities through our speaker series, which occurs every Monday. Bringing in speakers not only helps students gain a better idea of what they would like to do out of college, but also it helps teach great networking skills. In addition to the speaker series, there are also plenty of opportunities to participate in community service events. Giving back to the community is crucial and being apart of an organization that incorporates philanthropy into what they do feels very rewarding.

Center for Student Professional Development

Social Media Manager

Starting this past September, I joined the CSPD team as a student worker operating the front desk. This included handling tasks like answering questions, responding to emails, making sure we were stocked on supplies, organizing paper work, and data entry. After working the front desk for only a little over two months, I was approached to take on the role of CSPD’s Social Media Manager. After accepting this position, I soon came to realize that I had a passion for the work I was doing. While some may think operating social media accounts means being stuck behind a screen all day, it actually turned out to be the complete opposite. Anytime an employer steps foot into the business school, I meet him / her to ask questions and snap a couple of pictures, which get stored to be used as posts for later on. I also get the chance to talk to so many students to gather information about their internships or job offers. On top of all of that, I greatly enjoy getting to encourage students to follow our Instagram page. Through something as simple as in-office verbal promotions, our follower count has increased over 12% since I have taken on this role and that number just continues to grow!

Fox Student Philanthropic Society

Event Coordinator

I have been apart of FSPS since my freshman year because giving back to the community is something that I have always felt strongly about and is something that I highly value. Our mission is to collect donations, primarily sourced from Fox students, which contribute to the Fox Emergency Fund. This fund is then awarded as a scholarship to a student who falls upon unexpected hardships and can no longer continue their education. What makes this student organization different from any other that I have been apart of is that you can see the direct impacts from even the smallest of contributions. We collect these funds through a series tabling events held around the business school roughly once per month and it’s great to be able to see more and more people recognize our club, but more importantly, our cause. Being the Event Coordinator really gives me the chance to take on more responsibility and increase my involvement within this organization. Some of my tasks are speaking at weekly meetings, reserving the equipment necessary for a tabling event, and leading brainstorming sessions for an upcoming event.
