Read Between the Lines: Decoding Charts and Bars in the News
This webinar was hosted by Temple University and has resources on how to understand the data we’re seeing and understand that data is not always objective. Although numbers are meant to be interpreted as facts, the way they are displayed plays a role in how the audience interprets them. It is essential to understand the purpose and the motive of what the person or organization is trying to achieve and how they may be biased. Graphs and charts can be largely exaggerated to prove a point. Knowing what and where to look when analyzing these graphs is important so we can understand charts/graphs and how they might be skewed. Much of data analytics is making and understanding numbers and how to display the information in a way that’s understood so this was a good way be aware as I go into my career and be transparent and wary of the information I learn.
