Where Is the Data? Making Data Visualizations Accessible to All –
This webinar was hosted by Charles Library at Temple University and focused on how to make data visualization accessible. Data visualization is used to tell a story, so it is important to consider what type of charts to use and how to display the information. Now, taking that into account, it is important to make sure the display is accessible to various groups of people. A few ways to make sure things are accessible are making colors brighter and using fonts that are easily readable from a visual standpoint. Moving onto a technical accessibility standpoint, all parts of a data visualization should be labeled so that a computer would be able to understand and translate it to humans. This means including label forms such as headings and marking pictures that are relevant to the graph/chart. This activity is related to my coursework, as I am taking data visualization courses, and as I’m learning how and why to display data, I need to keep in mind that my data should be able to communicate to multiple groups of people.
