Hobbies & Interests
When not working on school work, you could find me playing or watching all types of sports, reading health and fitness articles, cooking up some delicious meals, or playing the piano.
I have always been interested in sports. My dad taught me how to play basketball, baseball, and soccer before I could walk and have had a strong connection to sports my whole life. I was brought up with my dad coaching me in every sport. It seems really cool playing for your dad, but it could be hard at times trying to be perfect to impress your dad. I had the most pressure on me in every game trying to play the best I could, which really helped me not back down from any challenge that stands in front of me. When I was a senior in high school, I was named captain of the varsity baseball team. Everything I learned from my dad, I brought with me to helping and coaching my teammates. My dad has always taught me “it’s not how hard you hit. It’s how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!” This has been the motto that I live with everyday of my life and has led to success in both in and out of the classroom.
Ever since I was little, I was fascinated with bodybuilders after watching the World’s Strongest Man show on television. I did a lot of research on health and fitness and have incorporated living the “healthy lifestyle.” I have been so obsessed with being healthy, I have not had a piece of pizza or a cookie in over 2 years. That’s right TWO YEARS! Crazy, I know. By living a healthy lifestyle, I had to teach myself how to cook.
Every holiday, my parents would ask me what I want and I would say cook book! I love making food for myself as well as for my family and friends. By cooking everything at home, I can see what goes into the food I consume and have a better feeling of knowing that my body doesn’t consume unhealthy preservatives or fatty acids. When I got to college, I had an idea of creating Steve’s Friday Feast. Every Friday, I have some of my close friends pick out what food they would like to eat, they buy the ingredients and I cook for them. It is as easy as that. I am currently a Junior at Temple University and we have NOT missed a Friday Feast yet!
When not playing or watching sports and cooking meals, you can find me playing piano. When I was in high school, I participated in a music class and on our free time I would go into the piano room and just goof off with friends. After seeing one of my friends play piano and heard how beautiful it sounded, I began to take a strong interest in learning piano. Every music class, I would ask my teacher for permission to go into the piano room and practice. After only a few weeks, I taught myself how to play piano. I got to the point where I taught myself how to play over 50 songs ranging from current songs on the radio to Disney songs. I even had the privilege to the piano at the talent show for my high school. I received a standing ovation at the end of my performance. When I feel stressed out with my college work, I take a break and play some tunes on my piano, which I have in my bedroom at school. Playing piano is the best stress reliever and really calms me down to get ready to study some more.
