Food Service Associate
Rybrew – Philadelphia, PA | April 2024 – April 2025
Part-time Non-Major Professional Work Experience
Rybrew is a locally owned café and bottle shop located in Philadelphia’s Brewerytown neighborhood, offering a curated selection of craft beer, house-made sandwiches, and a welcoming, community-driven atmosphere. As a Food Service Associate, I worked across multiple roles including front-of-house, kitchen prep, and order expediting, which provided hands-on exposure to customer relationship management and operational efficiency in a fast-paced service environment.
My job function involved running the front register where I greeted customers, answered questions about the menu, and processed transactions with accuracy and speed. I also worked in the kitchen preparing ingredients and assembling sandwiches, adhering to food safety standards and organizational guidelines. As an expediter, I served as the liaison between kitchen staff and front-of-house operations, ensuring every order met quality standards before being handed off for pickup or delivery. This role required me to stay organized, manage time effectively, and maintain strong communication across departments to support seamless service.
Throughout my time at Rybrew, I was involved in projects such as streamlining kitchen-to-register communication during peak hours, improving order accuracy, and adjusting prep workflows to enhance service speed. These tasks helped me build skills in teamwork, multitasking, and problem-solving under pressure.
This experience directly supported my development as a Management Information Systems major. It helped strengthen soft skills such as communication and customer service—skills that are essential in stakeholder management and user experience design. I also gained operational insights that connect to concepts covered in my coursework, such as process improvement (MIS2101), and business systems thinking. My role required maintaining consistency and reliability—traits essential in data and systems management.
