Community Service

Manna on Main street is a soup kitchen and an open pantry that serves to feed the hungry in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.  Their main goal is to provide food, fulfill a social service to the community, and provide educational needs for everyone who needs it.  Manna on Main Street’s vision is that “everyone must be Fed.”

I volunteered at Manna on Main Street for the first three summers of high school.  I was there three times a week, every Monday Wednesday and Friday from July to the end of August.   I was involved in preparing and actually cooking daily meals for all those who came in to eat lunch and dinner that day.  I was  also involved in setting the table and serving the food to those less fortunate.

From volunteering at Manna on Main Street, I feel I have learned a lot about how important it is to get involved in your community and how important it is to help others.

Catholic Heart Work Camp is all about service to the less fortunate communities all across the United States.  It provides parish youth groups and teens service opportunities to restore homes, feed the hungry, and lift the spirits of those kids who are in need.  When I volunteered with this organization I was sent to Greensburg Pa.  In Greensburg I cleaned, painted, and restored homes for two senior citizens.  I spent a week out in Greensburg serving not only these two senior citizens but also the community.  We worked in small groups travelling to these two homes everyday of the week doing different projects to improve their houses.  From this experience, I felt  that I gained the knowledge of what it means to be part of a team and to work with others to accomplish a project.
