Fox School of Business: Performance Analytics Student Worker

Performance Analytics Student Worker

Spring 2019

After taking Data Analytics (see Coursework) in Fall 2018, I took my newly-acquired skills to another level. In December of 2018, I accepted a position as a Student Worker in the Fox School of Business Performance Analytics department and began in January 2019. The Performance Analytics department is responsible for internal data reporting (to deans, programs, etc. within Fox) to help staff and faculty better understand student feedback, enrollments, recruiting leads, and more.

I started by learning to prepare survey reports on Graduate Student Satisfaction using Qualtrics. These surveys are distributed as orientation, mid-program, and exit surveys to see how students’ thoughts have changed as their respective programs progressed. As I developed familiarity with Qualtrics, I took part in reconstructing satisfaction surveys to ensure that Performance Analytics was acquiring the most important information in the feedback process.

In addition, I have completed other projects, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Use Microsoft Power BI (Desktop version and Online version) to build and rebuild reports for Student Satisfaction and Class Enrollments
  • Use Excel to Transform Data for reporting, developing a greater understanding of both the software and the transformation process
  • Increase automation in survey processing both by standardizing code values for survey processing and by learning Power Query

I have gained greater proficiency in Power BI, Excel, and Qualtrics during my time in this position. In addition, I learned about Microsoft Access (which we use to store survey data), Power Query, and data requirements. Many of these skills will be beneficial to me in future internships and jobs because understanding system/database requirements and limitations provide a great introduction to work in Information Systems. Plus, in an ever-changing age of technology, an understanding user experience and visualization is vital to an organization’s success.
