AWS Academy Cloud Foundations Overview

In Fall 2024, I had the opportunity to partake in the AWS Academy Cloud Foundations Course for MIS 3406. AWS Cloud Foundations allowed me to understand what AWS was and how to utilize certain services that it offered, such as EC2, Lambda, and more. Specifically, I found it the most interesting to learn about the Well-Architected Framework Principles and how it impacts both AWS and the companies that use the services. As someone who has previously worked in an Operational Excellence role, it was very interesting to see AWS’s take on Operational Excellence and the emphasis it has on focusing on the idea of constant improvement for the business and for the customers. Additionally, I learned about specific services that was important for my MIS 3406 course work as well, such as learning about EC2 Instances, DynamoDB, and more. While it was taught in class, I was able to refer to the Cloud Foundations Course for more indepth knowledge on topics I was not sure about, such as how VPCs worked and how it impacted EC2 instances, security groups, and databases within the VPC. The knowledge checks at the end of each module helped as a study guide as it tested my knowledge retention. I was able to recognize my weakness towards certain modules, such as Module 10: Auto Scaling and Monitoring. As a result, I was able to identify areas of improvement that I needed to focus on. Overall, the course was very insightful, especially for beginners, as it provided a lot of information about AWS in simple, yet detailed explanations.
