Intro to 3D Modeling: Imagining Biosphere

I attended the “Intro to 3D Modeling: Imagining Biosphere” workshop led by Jiayu Yang, where we explored how Unity and tools like the terrain editor, particle system, and VFX Graph can turn digital environments into ecosystems that feel alive. We also went over point clouds, which let you build 3D spaces from real-world data instead of starting from scratch. As we followed Jiayu’s instructions and experimented in Unity, it became clear how small design tweaks, such as the behavior of the bees, can totally change how you read the whole ecosystem. What stood out most was how 3D modeling isn’t limited to just games or high-budget animations, but can function as its own form of visual communication and even as standalone artwork. It also made me think about how businesses could use interactive models the same way, whether for data storytelling, training, simulation, or pitching ideas that don’t translate well on a static slide.
