MS in Digital Marketing Hot Topics Series: AI and Healthcare Marketing

I attended “AI Revolution in Healthcare Marketing: Opportunities and Challenges,” a virtual panel hosted by the Fox School’s MS in Digital Marketing program. The discussion explored how AI is transforming healthcare marketing by turning vast, scattered data into insights that help personalize patient and provider engagement. Instead of broad, one-size-fits-all approach, AI enables marketers to understand smaller, more nuanced groups based on behavior and sentiment, creating outreach that feels more relevant. What stood out most was the emphasis on empathy and responsibility. The panelists reminded us that while AI can analyze patterns and automate tasks, it lacks the understanding and emotion behind real human connection. One speaker continually emphasized that each patient is a dear family member to someone, which reminds us that even the most advanced tools need guidance from a human perspective and empathy. They also stressed that success in this evolving space depends on digital fluency, such as knowing how to use AI tools thoughtfully and check for bias, so that we can work smarter without losing the human element. The event left me thinking less about what AI can do, and more about how people choose to use it.
