Wayfair’s Commercial team is focused on

(1) building the best offering in home

(2) making every interaction a great experience for our customers to encourage them to keep returning

(3) growing awareness of our full offering and building habits with our brand.

Commercial Analysts are focused on steering growth strategy, optimization of Wayfair’s competitive positioning and billion-dollar P&L management across Wayfair’s product verticals, by leveraging highly quantitative business analytics. Commercial Analysts use data to drive profitable top line revenue, while working cross-functionally to affect product selection, merchandising, operations, and marketing initiatives. Analysts play a key role in building cutting edge ‘Big Data’ and leveraging these unique, proprietary, and massive datasets, coupled with a constant flow of experimentation on consumer response, to answer thorny questions that guide our go-to-market strategy.

MIS2502 (Data and Analytics) and BA3903 (Honors Integrative Business Applications) prepared me for the job interview. The interview asked me about a time I made a recommendation with data backed reasoning, and I talked about the best area in NYC to book an Airbnb based on price and availability with my analysis using python and tableau. I also spoke about the CAPSIM simulation in BA3903 where I had to read weekly business reports to make business decisions regarding pricing, profits, contribution margins, production, etc and was forced to understand the connections between each business departments. This job relates to my major as it requires large datasets regarding business operations and consumer behavior to guide market strategy– a combination of MIS and business fundamentals.
