Media Tech Intern

  • Information about the organization (e.g., type, size, location, specific division/department in which you are employed) – NBCUniversal owns and operates a valuable portfolio of news and entertainment television networks, a premier motion picture company, significant television production operations, a leading television stations group, world-renowned theme parks, and a suite of leading Internet-based businesses. I worked in the Enterprise Technologies division at the NBCU Technology Center in Englewood Cliffs, NJ.
  • Job function (e.g., overall role, assigned tasks)- Evaluate Platform as a Service for hosting Cloud Native applications; Evaluate the delivery capabilities of the Platform As a Service; Evaluate the opportunities for Serverless Computing. Evaluate the opportunities and implementation requirements for hosting Docker Applications with managed Kubernetes.
  • Examples of projects (e.g., list the projects you worked on and what you accomplished) –
    1. 25-page research paper on serverless computing and potential applications within the organization, worked with AWS Lambda to write serverless functions
    2. Surveyed 30 application teams using PaaS technology Pivotal Cloud Foundry to assess if cloud-native best practices were being followed, created and presented results
    3. Analyzed and worked with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes to assist planning and implementation of CaaS platforms at NBC
    4. Developed a immersive digital advertising experience prototype with fellow interns, placed in 2nd at the competition.

  1. What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this internship in the context of specific courses). – I learned an incredible amount of information about cloud-computing, networking, and Linux, but more broadly the role operations in accommodating a tech organization that needs to work with developers of all backgrounds to make sure applications are hosted in a secure and efficient environment. I also learned how to analyze problems from the perspective of a business analyst, and communicate with team members and other members of the organization to find effective solutions. My experience in 2502, 3501+3502, helped me throughout the internship.
