Professional Development (Case Competitions)
Case Competitions
Throughout my college career I have participated in two primary case competitions. the first one being the Alexion Data Analytics Challenge while the other was the Temple University Management Consulting Program Live Competition. Both of these were very informative of what I should be expecting when entering the professional world.
The Alexion Challenge presented participants with a dataset of over a thousand medical clinic trials. With this participants were told to answer a series of questions in order to adequately pull and transform the data into more digestible information for a panel of judges. These large datasets are commonplace for analysts in the professional sector, so getting my hands on it did well to prepare me for the type of work I might be seeing in the future.
The TUCMP competition on the other hand was much less technological and more focused on general business problem solving. This competition presented a problem that the chemical company Solenis was facing. While a highly profitable company, Solenis asked for a solution that allowed them to open up new revenue streams utilizing digital solutions, as well as provide more value from their products for their customers. This competition allowed a much more intimate look on what companies are looking for when it comes to digital solutions, as well as the problems they face as digitization becomes a much more common practice within their respective industries.
