MIS Coursework

MIS 0855: Data Science

This general education course is the one that truly persuaded me to become an MIS major.  In class, we were exposed to the power of big data by learning how to organize, analyze and visualize data in an engaging, hands-on environment.  We used tools such as Microsoft Excel and Tableau to create appealing and insightful visualizations.

MIS 2101: Information Systems in Organizations

This introductory course really opened my eyes to how great an impact IT has in any and every organization.  We examined how analytics, CRMs, ERPs and other emerging technologies can revolutionize a business.

MIS 2502: Data Analytics

This course enabled me to further my interest and understanding of data analytics that I had built in 0855.  In class, we learned to create and operates database systems, data models and warehouses.  In addition we learned to utilize data mining and visualizations for business intelligence and solutions.  I added data-centric tools to my repertoire such as database tool, SQL, and statistical analysis software, R.

MIS 3501: Data-Centric Application Development

This course built a technical foundation upon which I hope to grow.  We worked in Netbeans, an integrated development environment, to develop web-based applications using various programming languages.  Thanks to this class, I am confident in my abilities utilizing HTML, PHP, and CSS.  Although my interests are skewed towards the business side of IT, I can effectively apply my technical skills to solve problems and communicate throughout an organization.
