Artificial intelligence first took to the public in 1939 during the New York World’s Fair, when Westinghouse Electraicat introduced “Electro and Sparko”, a mechanical man and dog. Artificial intelligence is applied when a machine mimics cognitive functions that humans associate with other human minds. This includes learning and problem solving. Some of the goals of artificial intelligence research include reasoning, knowledge representation, planning and learning. In the future, it is predicted that computers will be as intelligent as humans. AI systems will be able to perform task that humans normally perform. All the innovations with AI has led to advancements in the autonomous car industry. More self-driving cars are being tested and produced. This will also affect our political economy and the future of labor in not only our nation but across the world. This topic is important because it is a fast-growing industry that will affect us all in the future.
This topic relates to the gathering, interpreting, and storing of data. Artificial intelligence has already allowed Google to retrieve your data, interpret in, and then provide information that pertains to a specific user. Our data is stored in Google’s database and then is use in order to place specific ads on our computer screens that we might enjoy. AI also relates to association rule mining. Association rule mining can predict what items a shopper will buy together and how frequently. Through this, AI tracks purchases and can predict when the shopper will need to buy those items again. AI is one of the most advanced users of data which is why it is important for us to pay attention to how artificial intelligence is being used today.
On April 19, 2015 Sophia the robot was activated. She is known for her human-like appearance and behavior. Sophia uses artificial intelligence, visual data processing, and facial recognition. She also imitates human gestures and facial expressions and is able to answer certain questions and to make simple conversation. Robots are becoming more and more realistic. Engineers and scientists have been able to find more ways to use AI. This growing field is truly limitless. Artificial intelligence is important to pay attention to in today’s world because it can be a huge threat to the future of our world. Through this class we are able to understand how data is interpreted and used which allows us to better understand how AI works and can be so powerful.
