Saint Joan Betrayed

At first when the performance began I wasn’t sure if this was something I was going to enjoy.  They had a few suitcases, which small cardboard toys that looked like I could have them myself and he was reading from a script.  I also had only vaguely heard of Saint Joan so I wasn’t familiar with the story, nor did it necessarily peak my interest.  Then the woman came out and did her part which I really enjoyed.  She wore masks spoke in different, distinct accents and seemed to really enjoy her part.  At first I liked how she was speaking in French while acting as Saint Joan but then I found it hard to concentrate and at times to understand what was going on considering I do not speak French myself.  My favorite part about her skit was the the King puppet and Saint Joan’s interactions with each other, I found it quite amusing.

The part I enjoyed the most about the entire class was actually after they were finished performing and told us about how they put the entire show together in a week, and talked about how they would write the scripts.  They would sit at table, say “let’s write for the king” and then their pencils wouldn’t leave the paper until 5 minutes were up.  Then they would go back eventually and pull the parts out that they liked from each others.

I also found it interesting that the woman went to a performance arts school in France because it was cheaper out there, but she did not know any French at the time therefore she said she was very confused the first few months.  The man also went to a Clown school, and even had his own 2 man clown act for a few years, I wish he would have showed us a little bit of that as well.

Overall, I enjoyed the performance, but I enjoyed the people more than the actually show; but for those that like DIY crafts or are a Saint Joan fanatic, I would recommend them seeing this show.
