Career Interests

While I am new to the MIS major, I have high hopes for what I’ll be able to do with it. My dream job has always been to work in an NBA front office in a decision-making capacity. Decision-making capacity doesn’t necessarily have to mean the general manager of the team, being in a position where my word carried weight in terms of the future direction of a franchise would suffice. With enough hard work, that dream can become a reality through MIS.

Take a look at any industry in the marketplace; they are all moving towards IS/IT decision-making. This includes sports teams, where there has been an ever-increasing trend towards hiring individuals skilled in data analytics to make decisions for the team. Teams across all four major sports are looking for candidates with knowledge of statistics, data analysis, econometrics, “big data”, and an ability to program; Temple MIS provides this education and more.

Understanding the scarcity of decision-making positions in sports and the demand for those positions across the country, I do have other goals that would be equally as self-fulfilling. My family has owned a small-business my entire life, so my thinking has always been enterprise oriented. I revel in the ability to work creatively with every facet of a company rather than repetitively with few responsibilities. Thus, being able to work within a company as an internal consultant, or with a consulting company that sends its employees to solve the problems of other companies would be challenges I’d love to take on. They say get a job doing something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life: being able to work with a group of talented individuals toward finding innovative solutions to time-old problems would be exactly that.

Personal Interests

Health and wellness is a significant part of my life. During my sophomore year of high school I decided to make a change in my life by eating better and becoming more active, and since then logging my diet and exercise has become somewhat of a hobby. Going somewhat hand-in-hand with health and wellness, I am a big fan of basketball, whether it’s watching it or playing it. I find that getting out and playing basketball is the best way for me to clear my mind and take a break from life.

Behavioral Economics is a field that I very much enjoy studying. Regular economics assumes that every entity will react rationally and in their own best interest to a given situation. However, behavioral economics deals in reality; people are irrational. Individuals don’t always make the decision that is in their own best interest – in fact – they rarely do. Learning about how people think, react, and feel about the world around them excites me to no end, so studying the subject has also become somewhat of a hobby of mine
