IT Auditor
The INS Companies are a group of regulatory consulting firms dedicated to assisting regulators exclusively since 1987. INS provides assistance and consultation to regulators in virtually all areas of regulation, from financial to information technology audits. Based in Philadelphia, the company has around 160 regulatory professionals with a wide range of experience and certifications.
My official job title at INS is an IT auditor; in this role, I’m ensuring that financial institutions, usually insurance companies and banks, and complying with a set of IT general controls, to ensure they are properly protecting their user information and proprietary data. We do this by first reviewing previous audits performed, usually our previous audit year’s work, as well as audits performed by other entities. From there, we start touring the Company’s IT environment, interviewing upper management, and collecting proof of various IT controls to confirm the IT environment is secured. If there are any gaps, we make recommendations for improvement, and then report our findings to the appropriate regulators. I also work closely with the financial audit team to ensure that information such as claims and investments are properly logged, reviewed, and protected.
The MIS coursework greatly assists me with performing my job function at INS Companies. Particularly the capstone course, Enterprise Cybersecurity, where I learned about how companies evaluate and protect against losses in availability, integrity, and confidentiality. Without these courses, I would have needed far more training to properly perform my current job function; instead, I can jump right in with minimal amounts of training.
