Interpersonal Communication

I recently completed the Interpersonal Communication course through LinkedIn Learning, which has enhanced several key skills needed for a future career in technology and business. This course covered topics such as interpreting nonverbal cues, balancing speaking and listening, and understanding cultural dimensions in communication—skills directly applicable to my studies in digital systems and global business strategies.

In the section on nonverbal communication, I learned how body language—such as posture, facial expressions, and gestures—can provide valuable insights into a person’s thoughts or feelings. Recognizing these nonverbal cues is essential in determining whether someone is truly engaged in a conversation, whether they agree with your ideas, or even if they are subtly signaling discomfort or disinterest. I understand that nonverbal communication can be conflicting, and I learned how to interpret these cues in terms of bigger picture, helping me read the situation more accurately.

Another key topic was knowing when to listen and when to speak, a crucial skill in any workplace. The course emphasized the importance of actively listening when you’re unfamiliar with the context or lack a strong opinion. By listening first, I can better understand team dynamics and contribute meaningfully when I gain enough context or insights. This lesson will be particularly useful in collaborative environments where team consensus and clear communication are essential.

Finally, the course covered communication and cultural differences, an increasingly important skill in today’s globalized workforce. I learned about the significance of understanding cultural communication styles—whether direct or subtle—and how these styles can influence workplace interactions. Being aware of these differences helps prevent misunderstandings and fosters more inclusive, effective communication. For example, in some cultures, building personal relationships is an integral part of business, while professional interactions remain more prominent in others.

This course has strengthened my interpersonal communication skills, which are vital for my future career aspirations in the fields of technology & international business. Effective communication is essential for navigating international teams, managing digital systems, and implementing global business strategies, all of which are core components of my coursework and career goals.
