Relevant Coursework
So far in my MIS career, I have taken three courses that have enhanced my experience in Management Information Systems:
- MIS 2501 Information Systems in Organizations: An introductory course into the MIS field. I learned the basics of Management Information Systems, ERD diagrams, and what career paths I could explore through MIS.
- MIS 2502 Data Analytics: I learned how to analyze, model, and design database-centric solutions for organizations. In this course I extensively used ERD diagrams, schemas, SQL, R, R Studio, and Excel in order to analyze and classify large-scale data.
- MIS 3501 Data Centric Application Development: I developed web-based data-centric applications using high level programming language. In this course I worked with PHP, SQL, HTML, CSS, and PDO to create functioning business websites and applications.
- MIS 4596 Information Systems Integration: I worked on a semester-long project that involved researching and comparing various different ETL tools based on tailored criteria to discover which tool was superior. Aside from learning about the ETL process as a whole, the project taught me a lot about research skills and being able to simplify terms so that it is easily understandable. When developing the criteria to judge our ETL tools on, it was necessary to clearly explain each category so as to avoid confusion. Developing use cases for the project also allowed me to demonstrate my research to more practical applications. You can view my project here!
