Prudential – Systems Analyst Internship

In the Summer of 2017, I travelled to Newark, NJ to join Prudential as a Business Systems Analyst Intern. The primary duty of my 10 week internship was to assist with Prudential’s Cloud Transition initiative.

I joined at an ideal time, because the management team at Prudential had just finished with an engagement with Ernst and Young to determine the ideal steps for the company to harness the benefits of the cloud.

We had a goal to determine which of the 1,500 applications in our portfolio would be the best candidates to migrate. In order to achieve that goal, we initiated a three step assessment process to determine our ideal applications in a six month time-frame.

During my internship, my team completed the first round of the assessment for the Global Business Technology Services business unit. We were able to develop a process to deliver the assessment to the application resource managers, collect their responses, and communicate the results to the leadership team.

From the 379 active applications managed by our business unit, we identified the top 69 applications for which to further pursue the viability of migrating to a cloud hosting provider. These applications were particularly exciting because they each had the potential to save the company millions in infrastructure costs.

I plan to leverage the skills I acquired during this internship to help my next employer maximize the benefits of the cloud for their business; to simultaneously optimize application performance and save money.
