AmerisourceBergen Financial Analyst Internship – Summer 2017

  • AmerisourceBergen Corporation is a drug wholesale company and is the largest pharmaceutical sourcing and distribution services company in North America and the second largest in the world
  • Distribute BRx (Brand prescription drugs), PRxO (Pro generic prescription drugs), OGRx (Other generic drugs), OTC (Over the counter drugs), and SPRx (Specialty products)
  • Financial analysis team focuses on data analytics to inform business leaders what’s going on and why and to develop integrated solutions to drive efficiency
  • Learned a lot of acronyms used in the corporation and how the corporation makes money. I learned about P&L’s, Brand Rx, PRxO Generics, components of Gross Profit, Sellside, BuySide, Specialty Waves, WAC, Chargeback, Contracts, Discounts & Rebates, Netsales, and more
  • Learned many different systems and tools including SAP Business Objects, Qlik, Hyperion Oracle Essbase, R, COPA, and Microsoft Excel
  • Completed an analysis of two of ABC’s most important Buying Group customers, CPA and SmartFill. This involved pulling in comprehensive P&L data and performing an analysis to understand what was driving significant variances. I then created a professional slide deck which allowed users to see the drivers and tell the story, and finally presented it to senior leadership
  • Completed User Acceptance Testing for ABC’s mobile underwriting application, iDeal. Escalated issues to IT and problem solved solutions to ensure testing continued and was completed within the given deadline
  • Attended a Cradles to Crayons volunteering event where we (the interns) helped organize and pack donations to help kids of various ages to receive the supplies and clothes they need to strive in school and everyday life
  • Visited the Government Affairs team in Washington D.C. and got a better understanding of how AmerisourceBergen plays a role in bettering health policies which impact their industry
  • It was actually really exciting to see how so much of what I have learned at Temple University as a MIS student was being used in the real corporate world. Examples include: R applications, pivot tables, data analytical and mining terms, SQL queries, data integrity, flow-charts
