At the CSPD College Career Fair, I was particularly interested in engaging with risk management companies such as Marsh McLennan, TD Bank, and Cigna, as these organizations align closely with my career aspirations. During my conversations with their representatives, I focused on understanding the unique challenges they face in managing risk across different sectors and how they are positioning themselves for the future. I asked questions about the key skills they look for in risk management professionals, their approaches to emerging risks such as cyber threats and regulatory changes, and how they integrate technology to enhance risk mitigation strategies.
Marsh McLennan provided valuable insights into their global consulting services, where they tackle a wide range of risk-related issues for clients across industries. From TD Bank, I learned about the intricate balance between financial risk, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction in the banking industry. My conversation with Cigna was particularly enlightening as they explained how healthcare companies navigate risks associated with health insurance, healthcare regulations, and patient data security.
These interactions helped me gain a deeper understanding of the diverse roles within risk management and how different industries approach risk differently. I left the fair with a clearer picture of the skills needed for success in this field, such as analytical thinking, adaptability, and strong communication skills, and an increased motivation to pursue internships that align with these interests.
