Sukumar Narayanan -Mentor
- Spoke with Sukumar Narayanan, president of DecsivEdge consulting.
- Mr. Naryanan and I had met over zoom on Fridays to discuss my career goals and aspirations, as well as how to navigate a seemingly complex professional world. He has taught me to think twice before getting an MBA but rather wait and see if the marginal benefit will be worth it. He has also mentioned that there is a sense of concepts being treated as something esoteric when in reality are more straightforward than it appears. We discussed in detail about the value of an MIS major, where it is the most useful, as well as how to grow in a company. I had followed up with Mr. Narayanan about securing an internship with a company in the summer which was in line with his advice to focus on learning in an organization and put less emphasis on attempting to gather qualifications without practical experience.
- The conversations I had with Mr. Narayanan also went into conversations about lifestyle and the accommodations that are necessary for living the life of an executive. He described the pros and cons of the day-to-day which put things into perspective as to why executives are so highly compensated. I believe that my mentorship with Mr. Narayanan was very insightful not only towards short-term plans but in shaping my long-term plans as well.
