Professional Achievement Activities

I have partaken in many activities at Temple: educational, recreational, and professional.

Three activities stand out, though, as they were defining of my professional success at the Fox School of Business.

IBIT Challenge

My friend Shay and I embarked on a journey to partake in the IBIT Analytics challenge. We recruited a team of fellow MIS students, and decided to get to work. Our mission was to discover market opportunities for E-Sports for traditional Media companies to explore. We analyzed some astounding figures, including how E-sports is nearly a Billion Dollar industry. We identified potential involvements for incumbent media companies, through sponsorships, partnerships, televised events, and leased space. These potential use-cases are integral to transforming markets to allow incumbents to keep up with disruption.

Fox IT Awards

The 2019 Fox IT Awards was the best Awards ceremony I have ever attended–yet I find that to be true each year I go. There is nowhere quite like the IT Awards to see the incredible achievements of both the students and faculty of the Fox School of Business and it’s advanced Management Information Systems program. The network that exists, and the people that make up that network are some of the brightest people I have met and look forward to knowing for the rest of my life. The MIS Program employs world-class technology professionals that serve as great mentors and teachers.

Cleansing Big Data

My capstone MIS class, Information Systems Integration, gave me the opportunity to meet some great people and work together on a challenging, yet awesome, project. Our task was to scrape wikipedia for over 70-thousand notable deaths, and create a structured data set capable of statistical analysis. Our team utilized and iterative agile development cycle, along with Python coding language, to scrape the data, assign variables, cleanse the data of irregularities or outliers, and create a high-quality structured dataset. The start-to-finish planning, action, and evaluation of this project allowed us all to see how integral the project management cycle is, and allowed us to leverage our individual skills to best complete to objectives of the assignment.
