WLSP: Product Management in AI
On November 16th, 2023, I attended the WLSP: Product Management in AI Zoom session directed by Jennifer Wong and sponsored by WLSP and Smartling. At the beginning of the information session, Ms. Wong discussed the pros and cons of deploying artificial intelligence to a product. The pros of adding artificial intelligence to a product are quality improvements, cost savings, and reliability/predictability. The cons of deploying artificial intelligence to a product are expensive deployment/maintenance costs and the need for a significant time investment to create a utility for artificial intelligence and a product. Ms. Wong then discussed ways to define requirements for a product and assessment strategies for whether a product truly will benefit from AI. If an idea is compatible with AI, there are various machine learning models to choose from. Ms. Wong discussed supervised models such as classification and regression, unsupervised models such as topic/clustering, recommendation/association, and anomaly detection, and transformer models such as neural networks. Attending the WLSP: Product Management in AI session has helped me progress toward my career goal of becoming a data engineer. A data engineer needs to build data pipelines that feed to the machine learning models – understanding how machine learning models is one side of the coin to building an efficient pipeline.
