Interactive AI Fair
I attended the AI and Fiction Writing, AI Image Creation Tutorial, and AI Ethics and Future Directions of AI Research at the Interactive AI Fair. I am very interested in artificial intelligence and want to learn more about its uses, so I chose the panels that overlapped with one of my interests: art.
The AI and Fiction Writing Panel was my favorite part of the day. Andrew John Wit from the Tyler school spoke about one of the books he worked on, I, Nobot. What was interesting about his book was that it was written and illustrated with the help of AI. I got to read some of the book and the AI illustrations really stood out to me. Seeing how it evolved throughout the book was interesting to me, as he explained the process of feeding it less and less information as the story progressed. At the end, the AI wrote an epilogue based on the story, and it was clear while it was based on the authors’ ideas, there was a creative factor that was clearly inhuman.
It was interesting to hear that despite many of these professionals working with AI in their everyday lives, they are not all fond of the direction AI is going in and view it as a tool to assist in their work rather than a replacement. The ending panel discussed the possible future for AI and regardless of its future, getting the jump on artificial intelligence is something I would like to continue as I would like to work with it in the future similar to how the people who spoke at the panels did.
