Fox Alumni to Student Global Mentorship Reflection
Participating in the Fox Alumni to Student Global Mentorship program was a valuable experience for me. I was mentored by Matt Thomas, a Technology Consultant at Protiviti and a Temple University MIS graduate. Throughout the semester, we met once every two weeks, either through phone calls or in person, which allowed me to consistently stay connected and receive guidance.
One of the most helpful parts of this mentorship was how Matt assisted me with planning my classes. As a freshman in MIS, it can be difficult to know which courses to take and how they will impact future internships and career opportunities. Matt gave me advice based on his own experience at Temple, which helped me feel more confident in my academic decisions.
In addition, Matt supported me whenever I struggled in my classes. If I did not understand certain topics, he helped explain them in a simpler way or guided me toward resources and tutoring options. This made a big difference because it allowed me to stay on track academically and improve my understanding of difficult material.
Overall, this mentorship helped me both academically and professionally. I was able to learn from someone who has already gone through the same major and is now working in the field I am interested in. This experience gave me more clarity about my future and helped me build a connection that I can continue to use for advice and career guidance.
