Professional Development Activities

Democratization of XR: Extending Reality for the Public

This activity showcased different uses of virtual reality. This activity is interesting to an MIS professional, because it shows ways in which advanced and developing technology can better a business. By attending this activity, I learned about the organizations DVNC Tech and Night Kitchen, virtual reality, and augmented reality. I interacted with DVNC Tech’s immersive reality studio. I learned that users can interact with a high-depth panoramic image with embedded videos informing viewers about the “ideology of community”. I also had the opportunity to talk to those belonging to the organization Night Kitchen Interactive. By this, I learned that Night Kitchen Interactive uses audio and animation to tell stories in a way that users can interact with. I was able to learn about image targeting and how it is used in animation that interacts with its environment.

Thinkful Webinar: Getting Started in Tech

I would describe this activity as an in-depth interactive discussion of way that one can learn different coding languages and their different uses. This activity is interesting to an MIS professional, because it emphasized the ways in which one can prepare for entering the field and its specific niches. I learned about the initial steps that are necessary for entering the IT field and different skillsets regarding technology that are necessary to gain, such as coding.

PTW19 Kickoff Festival Old City

This event was an opportunity for networking and promotion. There were various organizations promoting there services. This event would be interesting to an MIS professional, since services by companies, such as Linode, that involved apps, websites, data, and data storage. By attending this event, I learned that different softwares are available on platforms for user accessibility to process data and manage large-scale databases.
