Helping My Mom Learn about Technology

After COVID-19 halted life as we knew it, my mother had to adapt to online teaching as a seventh grade English teacher in the North Penn School District. While I’ve been attending classes at home, I’ve also been helping my mom more effectively teach her students in a way that is new to both student and teacher. I’ve aided her with basic commands in order to transfer her work from documents already in her Google Drive to new presentations that she sends out to her classes as their lesson each day. She is very proud of her progress and feels comfortable in this new online format that was sprung upon her suddenly. Helping my mom has reminded me of basic keyboard commands and taught me how to use and adapt to software that I don’t use frequently in college. These programs include Google Meets, WebEx, and Screencastify, which my mom has needed to use almost daily for her classes and meetings with administrators.
