Aramark is one of the world’s largest hospitality companies, located in Philadelphia, PA. We offer a range of services from Food & Beverage to Uniform Services to Facilities Management. Aramark delivers their range of service to ten different industries including, Sports & Entertainment and Higher Education. Being a client-facing company, we focus heavy on making a customers experience the most memorable by offering innovative solutions and great customer service.

My role at a Aramark was working on the Insight & Analytics team, supporting our Sports & Entertainment industry. This industry primarily delivers Food & Beverage services to various stadiums, arenas and ballparks across the United States.Being a multi-billion dollar industry, accurate data reporting is crucial to the business. The main area I focused on was analyzing Point-of-Sale (POS) data for each of our clients. When POS data was received, it was my duty to clean up the data sets by making sure all data entries were valid and then mapping them to the correct internal categorical levels. Once the data was cleaned, I analyzed the performance of both the products and concession stands to highlight which products and stands were over-performing and under-performing. At the end of the NFL season, I gathered presentations together, using season-long data, to report the performance of specific products, and recommend best-steps for the next season. My final task was helping assist our venues that will have be hosting large-name artists this summer. This analysis required comparing data on when the performer was last at the venue to the regular season of that venue, to see how consumer tastes change during concert seasons.

The time I spent at Aramark taught me about how data analysis plays a major role in businesses. Since data plays such a major role it is key to make sure the data being reported is as accurate as possible. One of the greatest challenges, was trying to understand how each venue labels their products. Yet, taking the time to understand this allowed for products to be placed in their specific category and not in a general category, increasing the data integrity. I also learned how to use visualization tools to allow anyone to understand data being reported. Not everyone can or wants to read large excel files, but creating charts and call outs, allows everyone to understand the key points.
