Data Analytics Intern
- Job function (e.g., overall role, assigned tasks) – As a Data Analytics Intern I was tasked with creating weekly and internal progress reports. Tracked employee project status to update on reports. Performed research on Google Analytics to identify key metrics to leverage.
- Examples of projects (e.g., list the projects you worked on and what you accomplished) – Main projects as mentioned before were to create weekly and monthly reports,. At first I extracted data from the company site and used the data on Microsoft Excel to filter and make visualizations and then transferring those visualizations to use in a report on Microsoft Power Point. I was tasked with transitioning the the process to Google Analytics via a custom dashboard, to essentially automate the process going forward. At the end of my internship I presented a custom dashboard with key metrics to track that would email the PM reports automatically on a weekly basis.
- What you learned and how it relates to your major (e.g., describe what you learned from this experience in the context of specific courses) – I learned a lot about how important data visualizations are. There are various key performance indicators (KPI’s) that if show the right way can really influence your business. But to do so you need to know what elements in what design would result in the best way to analyze the data (whether it be a pivot table, pie chart, bar chart or just numeric totals).
