Olivia’s Tips and Tricks

1. McGraw-Hill Recharges – The hour long smart books you complete are designed for you to review course content! Once completed, they offer a “recharge” option that allows you to go through an unlimited amount of questions! The questions that they offer are similar to that of your exam. Any sort of studying that you do for any exam in this class should start with these recharges.

2. Participation – You get out what you put in. As cliche as it is, it holds incredibly true to this class. Answering instructor’s questions, no matter how simple or complicated, are the best way to understanding course content. Even just answering one question a week will make your exam scores marginally better, scrolling on Instagram (as tempting as it is) won’t. Plus, the content in this class has direct applications to your career paths, no matter your major! You will be that much better of an applicant in jobs, co-ops, internships, or e-board positions, if you just have a surface level understanding of course content.

3. Take Notes – I get it- sometimes it is tedious, especially when you think you understand the content. Even if you think you can miss a week or so because the content makes sense, take notes! I can guarantee when you go back to review the slides before the exam, you’re going to forget the connections your brain made when you initially learned it. The worst case scenario when you take notes on content you know is that you just know it more!

4. Google – If there’s a question that you don’t know the answer to, Google it! That’s the easiest way to get the answer to a question you have.

5. Ask Questions! – If you don’t get it- ask about it! I can guarantee that the person next to you probably has the same question. No question is silly or stupid, and every question you ask will make you a much better student!
