Ask the Expert: 5 Steps to Change the Culture of Your Organization

Gartner hosted this webinar with Christie Struckman, a lead analyst with the company hosting it. It was a continuation of her initial webinar, “5 Steps to Change the Culture of your Organization”. For all new viewers such as myself, she repeats the 5 steps that include to understand the culture, define the desired culture, map the culture change journey, optimize the change journey, and measure the culture change. From there, it went into a Q&A, to which people asked about the involvement of senior management when wanting to change company culture. One statement that stuck out was “If senior management doesn’t really believe in the change, we are trying to achieve?”. This emphasizes how senior management also has to want to change the culture in order for anything to properly be done about it. Overall, she states that “culture is taught”, which I agree with. The first day someone starts a new job, they can see how the culture is and the person adjusts accordingly within the workplace. This was an informative event in the case that I were to start a job where the company culture is lacking and I could propose to change it with senior management.
