The Cybersecurity Threat Landscape

In this LinkedIn Learning, Marc Menninger talks about the most common cybersecurity threats and emerging threats. Something that stuck with me throughout completing this was something that Marc had said at the beginning, which was “for every organization, it’s not a matter of if they will be targeted by one of these threats but when.” I learned the there are two main ways that systems become infected with malware and they are system vulnerabilities and social engineering. System vulnerabilities are “flaws in the hardware or software” being used and social engineering is when “attackers convince users to download infected software, open an infected email attachment, or connect an infected disk or drive.” Another thing I learned was to protect against AI-based cyber attacks you should educate and make users aware of AI being used for fraud and other attacks, train them on how to spot deepfake audios and videos, encourage users to be cautious of phishing in emails, and train users to use other methods to verify financial transactions with the best being face-to-face verification. This LinkedIn Learning helped me prepare for the Managing Enterprise Cybersecurity course I am taking this semester by introducing terms and other concepts I am mostly likely to see in my course this semester. It also provided me with important information on how to protect against cyber attacks which I can use to ensure the work I do in my future career is safe from these attacks.
