Build an Image Captioning Tool for Visually Impaired Users with Gemini
I participated in a LinkedIn Learning course titled “Build an Image Captioning Tool for Visually Impaired Users with Gemini” taught by software developer Fikayo Adepoju. The course focused on creating accessible web designs using artificial intelligence, specifically Google’s Gemini API, to build an image caption generator. This tool is designed to help visually impaired users better interact with online content.
As a learner, my role was to follow along with the step-by-step guidance to understand the entire process—from building the user interface and connecting the backend to Gemini, to integrating the frontend with the API. Through this hands-on experience, I gained valuable knowledge about leveraging AI to create inclusive solutions and learned practical skills in connecting APIs to real-world applications. This course reinforced the importance of accessibility in design and showed how AI can be a powerful tool in creating meaningful, user-focused innovations.
