Camp Invention
Over the summer of 2018 I was a camp counselor at Camp Invention which was a STEM focused summer camp which involved children hands on learning about technology and other science related activities. Children were taught how to build and used basic technology and were also taught the basics of coding. I personally helped with the coding aspect of the camp and taught children basic HTML rules and skills. By the end of the program, the child would pick what aspect of the camp they found most interesting and would fulfill a full week doing that specific activity. I learned how to teach children basic computer language while also being able to help inspire more children to go into a STEM field.
Point of Sale System Setup
This summer, I was hired by the City View Diner to setup and help organize their new POS system. I was tasked with the job of organizing and building the ordering food process. This related to my MIS major by learning what goes on a POS system along with what it exactly takes to install and set up the system. I learned that this system can calculate how much of one item sells and notify the staff when it is time to order new products due to low inventory. This skill can help me secure a job in potential POS system developing and also helped me learn the inner workings of this technology.
Website Design
This summer, I also helped set up the City View Diner’s website and connect it with Google Analytics to help the restaurant look at the traffic and demographics that are attracted to the website. I helped with setting up the account and explained to my owners what Google Analytics is and how they can use it to attract a larger audience to their website and their place of business. We learned in class the importance of Google Analytics and how it can be used to look at the audience and attraction of a website. This helps someone see exactly what demographic is looking at their page and how they can appease their audience. I learned numerous amounts doing this activity and I helped more traffic come to the place of business and hopefully attracted more customers. This helped me learn that people eat with their eyes first and that it pays to have a nice website because this will attract new customers.
