How a Small Business CEO Built a Cybersecurity Presence

I attended the following webinar, where the speakers discussed the security risk for small businesses. They talked about how to reduce this risk, strengthen security and prevent threats realistically. This webinar was led by CEO Gary Salman, Cameron Cumming from Neuva Solutions, and LastPass. I have been considering opening my own business, so I found this webinar helpful. I learned that you need to establish multiple defenses in your business. They said that the biggest problem with small businesses is that they believe they have no risk because they are small and are also unintentionally being exposed by their employees.  Some of the things they talked about are:

  1. Conduct a cybersecurity risk assessment: Assess the risks to your business, including the data you store, the applications and systems you use, and your employees\\\’ use of technology.
  2. Develop a cybersecurity plan: Create a plan to address your identified risks, including policies and procedures for data backup and recovery, network security, password management, and incident response.
  3. Train employees: Provide cybersecurity training to employees to help them understand their role in protecting the business and how to recognize and respond to cyber threats.
  4. Use strong passwords: Encourage the use of strong passwords and implement multi-factor authentication where possible to reduce the risk of unauthorized access.
  5. Keep software and systems up to date: Regularly update software and systems to protect against known vulnerabilities and reduce the risk of cyber attacks.
