Application Analyst Intern
UHS is one of the nation’s largest and most respected healthcare management companies. It has over 350 healthcare facilities accross the United States, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. I was located at the Drummers Lane location which is one of their corporate offices and worked well along side the employees in the Information Services department. My role was to implement technology solutions in order to improve healthcare quality, healthcare safety, patient care, as well as engaging patients and their families in their healthcare. My projects included building and modifying various scheduling appointment types used with powerchart and scheduling applications, analyzing and solving system issues for end users while maintaining service excellence, as well as testing applications to make sure the information is prepared for “go-live” events. I have learned and experienced many things this summer that have related to courses in my major. One of the things that I was introduced to this summer was the company’s Entity Relationship Diagram which was a concept I learned about in my Data Analytics course. I also assisted some of my fellow interns on projects with PHP and SQL code which related to my Data Centric Application Development course. Overall, not only have I gained experience in the workplace but I have also earned hands on experience with topics related to my MIS major while building solid workplace relationships.
