Internship Experience

PPG INDUSTRIES

During the summer of 2011, I was able to intern with PPG industries as a finance intern. Throughout the internship I was required to complete various projects within the collections department.  Two stood out as being my signature projects for the summer. The first was the implementation of an alternative check processing software to reduce an audit risk.  I was required to research various programs, that were efficient, accurate, and would reduce cost. As well as organize meeting with managers from prospective companies that could potentially provide the services that were what we wanted from a system.  The next project was an account reconciliation for a major customer. I planned meetings with a number of credit managers within the company to gather account information on the customer so the account could be updated accurately. These projects improved my public speaking and management skills. It also gave me experience using the oracle database software. Overall my summer at PPG was beneficial in my professional development, providing me with the experience and lessons learned that I still use today.

ENTERPRISE HOLDINGS

The summer of 2012 presented a wide variety of challenges and experiences. This was my first summer away from home and I was focused on working hard as an accounting intern at Enterprise Holdings.  This experience was excellent providing me the opportunity to work for an extremely successful and evergrowing privatized company.  While at enterprise not only was I required to complete regular staff accountant duties such as account reconciliation, management of accounts for local branches, check processing for accounts receivable, credit and collections duties, and deposits. Completion of these task provided experience in the PeopleSoft software system. I was also able to put my experience in sales to good use spending some time in the rental branch that was connected to the office I was working in. During my time at the rental branch not only was I asked to assist customers with high quality service, I also was assigned the duty of retrieving rental cars with senior drivers when cars had been reposessed. This experience provided the opportunity to grasp a better understanding of the company from multiple employee perspectives.  In addition to these functions I assisted my supervisors in branch audits, providing an in depth look at the basic requirements and standards of an Enterprise Rent-a-Car branch. Interning at Enterprise displayed my diversity in the workplace, demonstrating that I could work and operate effectively in various capacities, while completing and managing a wide variety of task
